This works the other way too of course (if you had an Xbox One and your friend had an Xbox 360). Since the Xbox One can play Xbox 360 games, if you own a copy of Grand Theft Auto V for the Xbox 360, you can play with your friends on the Xbox One so long as they are also using the Xbox 360 version of the game! That is very important to remember, they have to be using the Xbox 360 GTAV disc on their Xbox One console. The small caveat to Grand Theft Auto V not supporting cross-platform is the Xbox 360 version of the game.
